Senior Privacy Counsel, Global EdTech Company (DC Metro Area or Remote) Are you passionate about privacy law and ready to drive strategic privacy initiatives? Our client, a mission-driven company that makes a global impact in education, seeks to hire a Senior Privacy Counsel (5+ years’ experience) to play a key role in advancing their global privacy program. You’ll collaborate directly with business units across the company (including Cyber) and engage with executive leadership to shape their privacy compliance strategy and advise on AI initiatives. Working hand-in-glove with business clients, you will: Lead privacy compliance Develop and implement privacy controls and best practices for critical projects Manage data subject requests, update privacy notices, and ensure compliance with consumer data protection requirements Design and lead internal privacy trainings Conduct risk assessments and handle incident response Draft and negotiate data processing and data use agreements with partners and vendors Collaborate with others in Legal on contract negotiations as needed In addition, the Privacy Team takes the lead on AI matters and collaborates closely with Legal and Cyber to lead the governance of AI initiatives internally. You will join a highly collegial 3-person privacy team and report directly to the Chief Privacy Officer (who’s been with the company for 8+ years). The General Counsel (who Garrison placed 6+ years ago) is open to someone working out of their Northern VA office on a hybrid schedule or remotely (EST zone). Must have: 5+ years of experience focusing on privacy, data protection and/or cybersecurity including various relevant laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, FTC Act, FERPA and HIPAA).
