A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont Industries, Inc., a leading global provider of engineered products and services for infrastructure development and irrigation equipment and services for agriculture, has an immediate opening for a part-time Senior Cost Accountant. This position supports the cost accounting and financial reporting functions for the multiple sites in concert with Divisional and Corporate accounting policies and procedures. 

Essential Functions

  • Analyze periodic manufacturing variances including purchase cost, material usage and overhead variances to evaluate if certain standard costs need to be updated
  • Prepare accurate, timely costing, labor and overhead rate reports that compare and analyze budget to actual results and future forecast
  • Responsible for monthly financial closing tasks related standard cost review
  • Effectively communicate the results of the cost analysis performed with reliable conclusions that management can use to implement more effective operational strategies
  • Provide audit support
  • Assist with cost and inventory report generation for operations management
  • Work with the site personnel to gather data and explanations to support spend and productivity analysis
  • Assist with completing and summarizing weekly updates for the operations scorecard production spend and hours recovered metrics

Other Important Details about the Role

This position is a part-time position requiring on average 25 hours worked per week. Reporting to the Senior Director and Controller, North America, this position is responsible for supporting the review and analysis of cost performance of the multiple sites. This includes the completion of reports, charts and diagrams that provide a basis for comparison and evaluation of standard to actual costs. This position is also responsible for providing ad hoc analysis to support financial forecasts, internal management reporting, benchmarking and monitoring of key cost indicators. The person in this role will work closely with the site personnel to understand and explain performance variances and trends. Other responsibilities include timely and accurate support of the monthly book close process and the monthly forecasts.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in accounting or finance
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with an annual revenue base of $50M or greater
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting and inventory reporting and analysis
  • 2+ years of general ledger accounting experience including account reconciliations, journal entries, and a basic understanding of internal controls
  • Proficiency in data analysis and tools used to evaluate data

  • Strong cost accounting and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adhere to deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze standard to actual cost information
  • Highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to work independently within the context of a complex matrix organization
  • Experience with IFS systems preferred
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred
