Job Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance processes for various housing-related entities. This role requires collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure financial accuracy and strategic decision-making. Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing annual operating budgets for multiple housing entities.
• Conducting monthly financial statement evaluations, including variance analysis and corrective action plans.
• Leading financial review meetings and assisting in budget execution.
• Preparing and analyzing financial reports for affordable housing entities, including cash flow statements and general ledger analyses.
• Reviewing financial statements prepared by external property managers and ensuring compliance with budget requirements.
• Ensuring financial accounting, tracking, and reporting meet regulatory requirements from HUD, CSD, lenders, and investors.
• Managing financial aspects of Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), HUD, city, and county-funded programs.
• Overseeing accounts receivable, tenant payments, depreciation, government billing, and grant compliance.
• Assisting with audits, financial planning, and cost allocation methodologies.
• Maintaining standard operating procedures and supporting financial reporting needs for internal and external audits.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• Experience with tax credit reporting, HUD policies, or affordable housing programs is a plus.
• Familiarity with property management software (Yardi, RealPage, AppFolio) is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong financial analysis, reporting, and budget preparation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced expertise in Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with various stakeholders.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining financial compliance and confidentiality.
