School Counselor - Anthony A. Andrews School Bering Strait School District has an opening for a School Counselor in our district. We are beginning to do interviews by Skype, video conference and other means. Our School Counseling Department is growing and working towards being a fully comprehensive program modeled after the American School Counselor Association Model.
Being comfortable using technology to track student progress and to prepare documentation is a significant advantage. BSSD utilizes a comprehensive web database for tracking student progress called PowerSchool, Google Drive and Macbooks; technology is used for most day-to-day tasks. All classrooms are wirelessly connected to the Internet.

JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Current Alaska Type C special services certificate in an approved counseling program
2. Master's degree in School Counseling preferred
3. Experience in schools is highly recommended
4. Demonstrated ability to live, work and travel in a cross-cultural setting
5. Computer literate
GOAL: Provide professional counseling services to students in the Bering Strait School District. Increase the effectiveness of interventions school-wide
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide a comprehensive school counseling program
2. Participate in site peer helper and site advisor programs
3. Provide individual and small group counseling
4. Apply crisis intervention strategies
5. Offer programs, training and services on topics such as substance abuse, suicide prevention/intervention and physical/sexual abuse
6. Assist students in post secondary planning and career education
7. Refer students and parents to appropriate agencies for assistance
8. Assist staff in the development/implementation of student management plans
9. Communicate effectively with students, parents and all staff members
10. Develop and locate materials needed to implement interventions/enrichments
11. Model effective intervention and enrichments
12. Keep accurate current records of school and student achievement in regard to interventions
13. Monitor results of all interventions
14. This position requires air travel on commercial and small commuter aircraft.

SALARY: Placement on Salary Schedule per negotiated agreement
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 192 days
