Job Summary Reporting to the General Maintenance Supervisor, the Painter is responsible for applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Essential Performance Requirements*- Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting
- Surfaces, removes old paint and prepares surfaces for painting with brushes, spray guns, or paint rollers; cleans and cares for brushes, spray guns, and other equipment
- Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors
- Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to simulate special effects such as wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects
- Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler and reports need for carpentry repairs to supervisor
- Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting
- Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, doorframes, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting
- Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level
- Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover
Service Excellence - Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
- Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision Works under the general supervision of the General Maintenance Supervisor

Required Minimum Qualifications - High School diploma
- Three (3) years' working experience as a journeyman painter
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Skilled in using the tools of the painting trade including the use of brushes, scrapers, spray guns, and sanding equipment
- Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
