Pay Range : $22.38 - $39.47per hour (based on qualifications)

Job Summary:

Under general direction from the elected 143rd District Attorney, this position represents the Reeves, Ward, and Loving Counties in conducting investigations related to suspected violations of federal, state, or local laws to prevent or solve crimes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties in accordance with the law and licensure as a Peace Officer.
  • Receive and review cases as requested by Assistant District Attorneys.
  • Serve as a liaison between the DA’s Office and Law Enforcement.
  • As directed, assist local law enforcement agencies with warrants and investigations related to cases in the DA’s Office.
  • Assist with Officer Training and DA’s Annual Law Enforcement Summit.
  • Identify and locate victims and/or witnesses; assist with follow-up interviews.
  • Request certified records; apply for and serve subpoenas and bench warrants.
  • Notify law enforcement personnel/witnesses of trial proceedings and important dates.
  • Conduct criminal history checks on the State’s prospective jurors, witnesses, and Defendant.
  • Assist the prosecutor during the jury selection process.
  • Set up trial exhibits, audio, and video equipment.
  • Testify as an expert witness, if needed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of bond forfeitures and asset seizures and forfeitures.
  • A working knowledge of Texas laws and their applications.
  • The Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, and the legal system in general.
  • Must be familiar with current MS Suite applications, i.e., PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Should have proficiency with firearms (safe operation).
  • Still and video cameras, and fingerprint techniques.
  • Should communicate effectively and professionally in all dealings with parties involved in an investigation.

Experience and Education:

  • Candidates must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of job-related experience.
  • Five years’ experience as a supervisor or criminal investigator is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 100 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, operate motor equipment, and use firearms.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure

  • A Basic Peace Officer's certification from T.C.O.L.E
