Non-Profit Controller

Location: Hartford, CT

Position Overview:

The Non-Profit Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of non-profit accounting.

  • Our clients current Controller is retiring, so the next successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to train with them, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity of the financial operations.
  • Additionally, the Controller will take on hands-on responsibilities for accounts payable while the AP Specialist is on maternity leave starting in September.

Key Responsibilities of the Controller:

  • Manage all aspects of financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee grant management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with grant requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations to the executive team and board of directors.
  • Supervise and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Take on hands-on accounts payable duties while the AP Specialist is on maternity leave.

Preferred Qualifications of the Controller:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit accounting or finance
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
  • The ideal controller will have experience with grant management and compliance.
