About the Role
The Company is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader for the role of Chair of the Department of Social Work. The successful candidate will be a Full or Associate Professor with a strong academic background, including a CSWE-approved MSW degree, a doctoral degree in social work or a related field, and the ability to be licensed as a social worker in the area. A minimum of three years in a social work educational administrative leadership role is required, with a preference for five years of professional academic leadership. The Chair will be responsible for representing the department to both internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration, mentoring faculty, and overseeing all departmental activities, including curriculum, student recruitment, and the faculty evaluation process. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of engagement with social work ethics and values, including ADEI principles, and experience with interdisciplinary collaborations, online teaching, and Indigenous populations. The role presents an opportunity to lead during a dynamic period of growth and development within the department and the institution. The incoming Chair will work closely with the Dean and other administrators to enhance the department's mission and its tradition of excellence. Essential characteristics for the role include excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, as well as a commitment to fostering a collegial and welcoming culture that promotes teamwork and shared governance. The Chair will also be expected to manage departmental budgets, seek resources for professional development, and facilitate long-term planning in the common interest of the department and the college. The position is tenured and the selected individual will be a consultative decision-maker, dedicated to excellence, and will start by January 1, 2025.
